A Cooling Towel
This is an obvious #1 top of the list as Orlando is ungodly hot no matter what time of year. You get in a crowd of thousands of your closest friends all milling about on the burning pavement? You’re going to need some sort of relief. These Mission towels are so nice because they are soft and stay cool with just adding a bit of water. As someone with heat sensitive MS? They are a life saver.
A Water Bottle
This seems like a no brainer, especially considering the aforementioned hell-level heat, but add in the fact that the water fountains at WDW are a lukewarm temperature at best and taste like sewage, trust us, bring your own water bottle. You are able to grab cups of water from various Quick Service restaurants and you can just pour them into your fabulous new water bottle and go about your day, well hydrated!
Deodorant
Trust me, I know this seems dumb. But again, thousands of your closest friends standing in the hot Florida sun. You’re going to want to have the option to reapply. You’ll thank yourself as will everyone around you.
Glasses Defogger Spray
Masks will be required at Disney for the foreseeable future, and when it’s not raining, the Sunshine State is just that, sunny. So getting a bottle of this defogging spray is essential in being able to wear those sunglasses (or regular glasses!) and still be able to see the Princesses as they drive down Main Street USA.
Battery Pack
Your phone is going to die. This is just a fact.
You can buy a charger in the park, but really it’s a much better plan to just bring along a battery pack and cord. No sense in missing a precious photo opportunity because your phone is dead. We have a few of these Anker packs and they’ve been life savers. Especially at the end of the day and you need to pull up Apple Maps to find your car in the parking lot.
A Fanny Pack
Or really, any small bag whether it be a fanny pack or a backpack. A purse is only going to get in the way, especially if you’re taking advantage of PhotoPass spots and aren’t okay with leaving your purse sitting on the ground. A fanny pack will hold all the essentials and leave your hands free to eat popcorn. We never leave home without it!
Sunscreen
This SunBum sunscreen may say it’s for your face, but really it’s great for all those most susceptible spots. Shoulders, back of the neck, ears, and obviously your face. The sun is brutal and arrives every morning intent on violence, fight back with this vegan and reef-friendly sunscreen!
Chapstick
Hitting up SunBum again for this one, for good reason. I love love love this chapstick. It has SPF and smells fabulous. If you think sunburnt shoulders are bad? They’ve got nothing on sunburnt lips.
Sunglasses
Sensing a theme? Heat. Hot. Sun. Violence.
You’re going to want a pair of sunglasses otherwise your face will be sore by the end of the day from hours of squinting. Do your eyes a favor and grab a pair of polarized lenses like these O’Neil Harlyn sunglasses. No UVA or UVB rays allowed here!
A Spare Pair of Shorts
This one requires a bit of a backstory. If you decide to wear the new, cute, summery shorts that you bought at Forever 21 to Disney, and then spend eight hours a day walking around… you’re going to end up at the store buying a pair of shorts. That $12 you spent at Forever 21? It’s disintegrated. That cheap fabric is a distant memory. You’ve left a Hansel and Gretel worthy trail of shorts scraps through all of Tomorrowland and your wife and friends will never let you forget it.
Bonus Entry: Advil
It is not uncommon to walk many, many miles in a single day at any of the Disney Resort Parks. Even if you don’t get sunburnt and stay well hydrated and somewhat cool and don’t have shorts that are falling apart, you’re still going to want to pop a few pain relievers of your choice.
So that’s it! Our top ten, or eleven, things we do not leave the house without when headed out to Disney for the day. They may seem like no brainers, but trust me, even missing just one of these items can make for a slightly miserable experience. Or, at the very least, a more expensive experience as you surpass all the Mickey themed souvenirs to beg the cashier to point you in the direction of sunscreen.
